Background of the Study: Skin-related complications, such as pressure ulcers, fungal infections, and dermatitis, are common among long-term care patients, particularly those with chronic conditions or limited mobility (Abubakar et al., 2023). These complications can result in severe pain, infections, prolonged hospital stays, and a decreased quality of life (Dogo et al., 2024). Nurses, who provide continuous care in long-term care settings, play a critical role in preventing, identifying, and managing these skin-related issues (Olumide & Adebayo, 2023). Their tasks include conducting routine skin assessments, providing wound care, ensuring proper hygiene, and educating both patients and caregivers on skin care practices (Umar et al., 2023).
In Benue State, the challenges of managing skin-related complications are amplified by overcrowded facilities, limited resources, and insufficient nurse training (Ibrahim et al., 2023). This study seeks to investigate the role of nurses in reducing skin-related complications among long-term care patients, with a focus on the strategies they employ and the outcomes achieved.
Statement of the Problem: Long-term care patients in Benue State face a high risk of developing skin-related complications, which often lead to increased morbidity and prolonged hospital stays. Despite the critical role of nurses in preventing and managing these conditions, there is limited research on how nurses in Benue State healthcare facilities address skin-related issues in long-term care patients. This study aims to explore the role of nurses in reducing skin-related complications and the challenges they face in doing so.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on long-term care patients in healthcare facilities in Benue State, examining the role of nurses in managing skin-related complications. Data will be gathered through interviews, surveys, and patient outcome assessments. Limitations may include variations in care practices across different facilities and potential biases in self-reported data.
